Memorialized accounts on LinkedIn allow a person's legacy to go on after they die.
You can request to commemorate or close a dead member's account if you're allowed to act on their behalf and have the necessary information and proof.
You can only report a member as deceased if you aren't an authorized person.
The requirements for authorization are:
- Letters of administration issued by a court
- Letters of Testamentary issued by a court
- Letters of Representation issued by a court
- Other court order appointing the requestor as an authorized representative for the deceased’s estate
If the account is deleted, it will take 21 days (3 weeks) for the account’s data to be completely erased from LinkedIn’s system.
For authorized persons, you can request to memorialize or close the account through this link. Fill in the following information on the form:
- Full name of the deceased
- URL to their LinkedIn profile
- The deceased’s email address
- Date of passing
- Copy of death certificate
If you can not prove your authority, you can still report them as deceased and have their account hidden. Once the account is hidden, it will no longer be searchable or visible on LinkedIn. You will be asked to submit proof of their passing.
