Memorial & Administration

This post is part of the series:

Deactivation & Memorialisation Of Social Media
TikTok does not have a memorialization feature, but it is possible to deactivate the deceased's account. Find out the steps here.

Like Twitter, TikTok does not have a Memorialization feature. The only option is to have the account deleted or deactivated. It will be easiest to delete the account if you have the deceased’s smartphone and login information.

Account deletion can only be done through the mobile app. If you have access to the deceased's TikTok account, you may request deletion of the account, and Tiktok will send a verification code. To do this, go to Manage account and click Delete account.

Deleting a TikTok account will not erase it from the app immediately. It will be deactivated for thirty (30) days and will not be visible to other users. The account will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Deletion does not include messages or media sent to other users.

If you do not have access to the phone or login information of a TikTok account, here are the steps you can take:

  1. Contact TikTok support to let them know that the original owner is deceased and you are deleting the account on their behalf. TikTok does not have an official page for handling a deceased's accounts, but this link may help in reaching them for more specific requests.
  2. While waiting for the account to be permanently deleted, you may also opt to make the account private. This will ensure that the account cannot be reached, and their data is protected until you have the information and access needed to delete it.
